2 people killed, 3rd injured in head-on crash on Route 49 in East Brookfield

Two Massachusetts men were killed and a third person was seriously injured in a crash Monday on Route 49 in East Brookfield. State police said the crash happened at about 12:30 p.m. near the intersection of Flagg Road.Investigators said a 2021 Nissan Rogue, which was traveling north on Route 49, crossed into the southbound lane and struck a 2018 Toyota Tacoma.The driver of the Nissan, a 60-year-old Fitchburg man, and the driver of the Toyota, a 71-year-old Leicester man, both died of their injuries. A passenger in the Toyota, a 28-year-old Leicester man, suffered serious injuries and was taken to an area hospital via ambulance.State police said all travel lanes on Route 49 were completely closed, with detours in place, for approximately 4 hours.The crash is being investigated by the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, MSP Crime Scene Services Section and state troopers assigned to the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office.
