EXCLUSIVE: Ranveer Singh reminisces about prepping for Allaudin Khilji in Padmaavat; says, “I was eating red meat three times a day”

Speaking about one of his most popular roles by far, the role of Allaudin Khilji in the Shahid Kapoor, Deepika Padukone starrer Padmaavat, Ranveer said, “We are in the 2000s. How do you transport yourself to that era? So you read about people who lived at that time, about tyrannical rulers, about torture methods? You watch cinema! You watch other portrayals of psychopathic characters or sociopathic characters. You read about Sociopaths. And, murderers, and people who’ve commissioned genocide! How do you convincingly become somebody who can be a perpetrator of genocide? How do you do that? How do you transport your mind, body and spirit there? It’s through, like I said, different methods.”

Elaborating on it he added, “So it’s peculiar like I had a workspace. I sort of created like a cave. And I was living in them and breathing in them. Then I eat like I said, it’s what you consume. Change your diet! So I was eating with red meat three times because for me during Khilji I was like, it should come straight from my gut. So it starts then literally, with the gut. This is literally what you’re eating and Khilji I was eating red meat three times a day. Maine socha ki agar main aisa karunga toh it’ll affect my temperament you know, it’ll affect my body heat. It will affect everything. So started with that as it is down to what you eat.”

As for his recent film Jayeshbhai Jordaar, Ranveer Singh confessed that he was a vegetarian because Jayeshbhai is a Gujarati. The film also stars Shalini Pandey who is debuting in Bollywood with this role and it also stars Boman Irani and Ratna Pathak Shah. The film hit the big screens on May 13, 2022.
