Manchester man arrested for alleged hit-and-run in Merrimack

A Manchester man was arrested Friday for charges stemming from an alleged hit-and-run in Merrimack.According to New Hampshire State Police, a 59-year-old from Manchester pulled over on the right side of the Everett Turnpike to render aid to a car that crashed during Friday morning’s storm.”That pedestrian, a Good Samaritan, had stopped for a previous crash in the center median,” said Capt. Mark Hall. “That Good Samaritan was trying to render aid to the people that were in that crash.”Investigators say the man was then struck by a car while he was walking on the grass shoulder off the side of the roadway. The 59-year-old was transported to the Elliot Hospital for what was described as life-threatening injuries.The victim’s name has not been released.Officials say the driver of the car that hit the 59-year-old left the scene without stopping. State police later identified the driver as Jose Enrique Cruz Vasquez. “Investigators along with the collision analysis reconstruction team from the state police responded,” Hall said. “They worked tirelessly throughout the day to identify the person that was involved in that crash.”Vazquez was charged with reckless conduct with a deadly weapon and conduct after an accident. He is set to be arraigned in court on Monday.
