The definition is used by the medical examiner’s office. Deputy Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Mitchell Weinberg conducted an autopsy on Christopher Coppola, 43, Sunday morning. Coppola’s cause of death was a single gunshot wound to the chest, according to Weinberg. The manner was homicide.Derry police responded to a call at 2:17 p.m. Saturday for reports of an individual with a shotgun approaching the home at 1 Driftwood Road and firing at a resident. Coppola had the shotgun and lived at 5 Driftwood Road, according to the attorney general’s office. The attorney general’s office said police arrived at the address, and Coppola was shot. Initial information from the attorney general’s office said three officers discharged weapons during the incident. “I can say with certainty for you that officers fired at Mr. Coppola and he was struck by those gunshots. I can say that, but with regards to the specificity of which round came out of which barrel, that’s going to require a little bit more investigation,” Senior Assistant Attorney General Ben Agati said. The neighbor Coppola fired at and law enforcement officers were not injured.It’s not clear exactly what led up to the shots being fired.The attorney general’s office is investigating the incident, and they said additional information will not be released until after the officers’ formal interviews. The office said the interviews are expected to take place in the coming weeks.
