Russia and Ukraine will on Monday hold the fourth round of peace talks, just a day after Moscow launched an airstrike at a Ukrainian military base close to the Polish border. As many as 35 people were killed and 134 were injured. President Volodymyr Zelensky urged NATO to impose a no-fly zone over Ukraine and warned that its member states will soon be attacked by Russian forces.

As the war escalates in Ukraine, the fighting is raging in Kyiv’s suburbs as Russian forces advance ever close to the capital. According to the Ukrainian government, only roads to the south remain open and Kyiv is preparing to mount a “relentless defence”.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, an American journalist was shot dead in Irpin while another was wounded. Video documentary maker Brent Renaud, 50, was working for Time Studios on a project about global refugee issues, the media outlet said.

Renaud is the first-ever foreign reporter to be killed since Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24. Danylo Shapovalov, a surgeon volunteering for the Ukrainian territorial defence, said Renaud died instantly from a gunshot wound to his neck.

The International Federation of Journalists identified the wounded journalist as American photographer Juan Arredondo.
