Madison County Emergency Management confirms six people have died after a tornado rolled through southwest Iowa Saturday afternoon. The Des Moines National Weather Service says tonight that initial evidence suggests the tornado that struck near Winterset was at least an EF-3. The county says that includes four adults, and two kids under the age of five. Emergency management said the Red Cross has set up a shelter at New Bridge Church in Winterset.The Madison County health care system said staff is treating multiple injuries from the storm.Madison County authorities are asking people to avoid disaster areas. Emergency responders are continuing to assess the damage and perform search and rescue operations. At the height of the storm, MidAmerican Energy’s outage map showed more than 10,000 people were without power.
